Cardiology is the study and treatment of the heart, its action and diseases. The medical doctor or specialist who treats the diseases and malfunctions of the heart and cardiac system is a Cardiologist.

Cardiac Diagnostics
Cath Lab
The Cardiac Cath Lab at Eastside Medical Center is a an advanced technology center where testing is performed to diagnose heart disorders and abnormalities. Passage of a tiny plastic tube into the heart, through a blood vessel allows measurements to be taken. Samples of blood are drawn, blood pressure and cardiac output are measured. Electrocardiography
Electrocardiography is diagnostic testing that creates a graphic record of the electrical activity of the heart or electrical currents originating in the heart. This is also called EKG or ECG.

Cardiac Rehab
Taber's Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary defines Cardiac Rehab as "a structured, interdisciplinary program of supervised activity, progressive exercises, psychological support and patient education designed to enable attainment of maximum function capacity by patients who have experienced a myocardial infarction."
In simple language, a cardiac rehab program is for patients with certain heart disease. This program teaches the patient to use mental skills/attitude, exercise, good food choices and self care to return to the highest quality of life after having a heart attack.

Sleep Disorders Center
The Sleep Disorders Center at Eastside Medical Center is located at the Eastside Heritage Center, on Fountain Drive off Highway 78, in Snellville. The Sleep Disorders Center provides state-of-the-art data collection by professional, caring staff in a relaxing, calm environment. Each private room is comfortably appointed with a queen size bed, color TV and private bathroom.
Our Sleep Disorders Center may be able to help you if you have noticed any of the following:

Daytime sleepiness, chronic fatigue, falling asleep at inopportune times

Insomnia or restless sleep

Leg and/or body jerks during sleep

Loud snoring
-
Gasping for breath or breath holding during sleep

Depression or personality changes.
If you believe you or a family member has problems with sleep, contact your physician. To schedule a sleep study, a written referral from your doctor must be sent to the Sleep Center. Once the referral has been received, you will be contacted by the staff to schedule the overnight stay.
As part of the sleep study, a review of the patient's medical and sleep history will be performed by our staff. These histories, combined with data from your overnight sleep study, will determine if a sleep disorder exists.

Respiratory Therapy
Respiratory Therapy at Eastside Medical Center is the department whose specialty is treating and diagnosing all types of diseases, disorders and problems with the lungs and respiratory system. The respiratory therapists and technicians:
- Respond to cardiac and respiratory arrest codes
- Perform CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation)
- Draw blood and perform analysis of arterial blood gases
- Perform pulmonary functions testing
- Administer aerosolized medications through various breathing treatments
- Education and training in breathing exercises and incentive spirometry
- Perform postural drainage and chest percussive therapy
- Set-up and monitor life support equipment
